Rhubarb Bircher

Rhubarb believe it or not is a vegetable, somewhere along the way it has just been treated like a fruit and I love it! I love its tartness, its britishness and for me it takes me instantly back to my childhood, when my granddad would make his homemade rhubarb crumble.

Rhubarb is a great add on for lots of dishes, it makes amazing deserts and one of my favourite things to make is a rhubarb Bakewell tart (YUMMY). However last week I went to a Native Highs Yoga and brunch event and we had the most delicious breakfast from Dust Granola. It was bircher, cacao granola and you guessed it a rhubarb compote!! It was so delicious and such a great breakfast combination that it totally inspired me to give it ago and make my own rhubarb bircher at home.

Taking full advantage of the fact that my mum has a garden full of rhubarb I came up with this ridiculously tasty and healthy bircher recipe.

Yoga for Children

Everyone can practice yoga, you are never too young or too old!

Research has shown that yoga can benefit children in various ways and if practiced can make them calmer, more focused and have better concentration. What parent or teacher doesn’t want that!?

If you are thinking this sounds like a great idea but don’t know where to begin, just be creative and go with the flow and children are bound to enjoy it!

To get them involved in yoga however it must be fun and exciting. Here are a few ideas for teaching children yoga…

Colourful Quinoa Bowl

I love cooking, I find it therapeutic and a lot of fun when experimenting with flavours. However on a week night when I am rushed for time I will always go for something quick. No one has time to make a cauliflower pizza base on a week night, right?

I want my dinner to be healthy and nourishing but the preparation to be minimal.

This colourful quinoa bowl is all those things and more!

Healthy banana and chocolate ice cream

I SCREAM WE SCREAM WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM.

Who said you can’t have dessert for breakfast!?

Well with this ice cream bowl you can have all the yummies of a dessert, eat it at 9.00am and feel completely guilt free…

This healthy take on ice cream is so incredibly smooth, creamy and chocolatey that you would never know it wasn’t the real deal. Apart from everything is wonderfully natural, it’s free of unnatural sugars, processed ingredients, animal products and chemicals so it will leave you feeling energised and glowing from the inside out. Instead of getting a massive sugar rush and crashing 10 minutes later!

This is one of my favourite breakfasts, it is fantastically sweet, creamy and delicious!

It is honestly heaven in a bowl and even if you don’t like bananas, don’t worry, for some reason (maybe the freezing) it doesn’t have that banana taste!

It is super easy to make and you only need four ingredients…

My current fitness routine

Being active and working out comes pretty easy to me, this may sound strange to some people out there, but honestly I just love moving my body and always have done. Okay, so obviously I do have my off days where I just want to sit and eat a whole pack of oreos but they are pretty rare.

From the age of four I was attending my local baby ballet, at primary school I had joined every athletic club going, and at home my sister and I would create obstacle courses around our garden pretty much every weekend.

There is something about being physical in whatever context, that has always made me feel good. Times have slightly changed and now my fitness routine is more organized; even though I wish my sister and I could still run around our garden to get fit and healthy bodies.

Being vegan for the week

Rules: Going completely vegan for a whole week, NO EXCEPTIONS.

Sounds pretty easy right? ….. I really wanted to try and see if it is actually possible for me to go vegan, so I thought why not trial it out for one whole week. No meat, fish, dairy or anything that may contain animal products.

Why: I eat vegan pretty regularly anyway but I have never gone the whole way as I am a massive foodie.
